Subject: Support of west Maui affordable housing

    Aloha Maui County Council,
I urge Maui County Council to prioritize funding for long-term housing initiatives in West Maui, particularly for the Kaiāulu o Kupuohi and Pulelehua projects. These initiatives hold the key to providing stable housing for our families and individuals affected by the Lahaina fire, and their expedited construction is important.
The devastating impact of the fire has left thousands of West Maui residents in precarious living situations, with many still residing in hotel rooms or unstable accommodations even after almost nine months since the fire. The closure of breakfast and lunch programs in these hotel settings further highlights the challenges faced by our community. Additionally, more than a quarter of displaced individuals have been forced to leave the island due to the huge shortage of housing options.
Given that 87% of displaced residents are renters, the need for affordable housing on West Maui is critically urgent. Since the fire, no funding has been allocated for long-term housing projects in West Maui, exacerbating the housing crisis for affected families and individuals. Please prioritize building stable long-term dignified housing in West Maui.
    Mahalo,

In the hope that you are actually listening to the voice of the people of Lahaina and Maui in general.
Not just the rich but the poor who have no other options than the beaches where they are beeing kicked out of. From Mala Boat ramp to Olowala and probably further North and South folks are beeing displaced some more, public bathrooms closed not only nights but days as well. This is no way to treat your constituants. I have pictures and a video to back my words.

    Sincerely,

Subject: WEST MAUI BUDGET FOR LONG-TERM HOUSING

Please provide budget funding to ensure long-term housing for west Maui. There is a critical housing shortage and help is needed now. It has been almost 9 months since the disaster. Our people are still "living" in hotels or constantly moving. They have suffered more than enough.
Thank you for your support re this very important matter.

    Aloha Maui County Council,
I am writing to ask the Maui County Council to prioritize funding for long-term housing initiatives in West Maui, particularly for the Kaiāulu o Kupuohi and Pulelehua projects. These two initiatives are the keys to providing stable housing for our families and individuals affected by the Lahaina fire and building them now is very important for the future of Lahaina and the whole West side.

Subject: Support West Maui affordable housing

    Warmest Mahalo and Aloha!

Also, our kūpuna were in dire need of housing before August 8th, 2023 – and the need is greater now. Please prioritize Maui County kūpuna as occupants. No HUD driven applicants please.

Aloha Maui County Council,MFD put out
We live in north Kihei, My family was lucky: we were evacuated the night of 8/8/23, then we watched the MFD put out the fire that was heading our way. The huge scary ball of orange fire and black smoke suddenly became a big cloud of white steam. We all cheered and went back to bed. We found out about Lahaina in the morning, and began volunteering to get supplies to the survivors.
The economy?? I was a wedding musician, but we are at 10% of normal. I was a trauma therapist in the past, so I am returning to that calling, to help Lahaina survivors to heal. No more suicides.
We are appalled with FEMA! I have dear beloved friends, good professional people who are still being evicted and moved around in hotels.
We usually call and write to ask for road repairs (some parts of SKR are terrible, but we pay so much for our auto license.)And we have some great ideas for county parks improvements...
But we just don't care about any of that now; affordable housing is our TOP priority, and should be yours as well.
