Aloha, My name is Makalapua Kanuha lineal descendent of Makena and Naopu'u Kaupo.
I STRONGLY SUPPORT this tax reform as a lineal descendant to our ‘āina kūpuna, ancestral lands.
BFED-78 CC 21-29 COUNTY PROPERTY TAX REFORM
A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO ‘ĀINA KŪPUNA LANDS
To amend Chapter 3.48, Maui County Code, to add a section relating to taxes on parcels dedicated as ‘āina kūpuna.
Our ‘āina kūpuna, ancestral lands in Naopu'u Kaupo have been, and still is, in our ohana since the 1800's. We continue to malama our aina kupuna and the palina of our kupuna who are buried on our ancestral lands. Outsiders are moving in and initiating changes of our wahi by changing land zoning from conservation to residential to build their homes! These changes will have a negative affect on our ohana, and our aina kupuna, ancestral lands!
"I support the ʻāina kūpuna bill BFED-78 CC 21-29 that provides tax relief for lineal descents who continue to live and care for their ancestral lands. Please support the bill by passing it out of your committee."
Mahalo.
Dear Budget, Finance, and Economic Development Committee,
I am a descendant of Samuel Chang, he grew up in Makena Maui and the Kukahiko property is part of the legacy he has left to our 'ohana.
I support the ʻāina kūpuna bill BFED-78 CC 21-29 that provides tax relief for lineal descents who continue to live and care for their ancestral lands. Please support the bill by passing it out of your committee.
I support this tax reform. This area is filled with expensive vacation properties. This family living here permanently for generations should not have to pay such high taxes.
I fully support the ‘Aina Kupuna bill BFED-78 CC 21-29 that provides tax relief for lineal descendants who continue to live and care for their ancestral lands.
It is abhorrent that people can be taxed out of their ancestral lands or that residents pay comparable taxes to those who would use these parcels as investment or development properties.
I whole heartedly support this bill: BFED-78 CC 21-29 COUNTY PROPERTY TAX REFORM (BFED-78).
Ancestral lands are being gentrified from transplants and our own kama’aina are being forced out of there rightfully owned land! This bill will help these families tremendously. Keep Hawaiian lands in Hawaiian hands!!
I was raised on kupuna Aina and I still return home. I see the blessings and burden it has been to my families. Please Support out local families!
Esther Melani Chang
I support this bill 100% I come from a kupuna Aina! Please Ohana support this bill!

I am in full support of this Bill! Native Hawaiians, should never have to fear being forced out of their own land!
Enough with the taxing already!!

I support. This ohana has had this land for more than 3 generations and shouldn’t be paying an outrageous amount for land tax.
Kānaka should not have to pay any property taxes on ʻĀina that is rightfully theirs
