I am extremely supportive of the county to go ahead and do whatever necessary, within legal reason, to prioritize permit acquisition, expediting thought the county bureaucracy for the primary purpose to move this Pulelehua long-term affordable rental housing project forward ASAP as our West Maui, in particular, community is in extreme desperate need of more affordable housing NOW!

Aloha, my name is Ty and I am born and raised in Lahaina. I support the Pulelehua project! I would love to see the project built quicker and maybe we could bring back some of my friends that had to leave after the fire because there is nowhere to live on this side of the island.

Water is a resource that we should protect and not just. Use use use! Do we have enough in West Maui? Don’t just say that we have enough to move forward with projects. I do support affordable housing , if we need more affordable rental housing then something has to give. maybe less vacation homes and resorts? Hard to say, then we have less jobs for people.
Like I said something has to give.
So for now until we really look into it and have public discussion, I say no!

    Aloha,

I, 100% support the Pulelehua long term affordable project. As a 38 year old born and raised Lahaina resident, my family and I would love to remain in Lahaina and not have to move off island or outside of the West side due to the lack of availability or high priced homes.

I support the Pulelehua long-term affordable rental housing project and do whatever it takes to remove barriers that have stood in the way of construction. We need permanent housing for ALL local residents who lived here all their life needing permanent housing.

    Aloha,
Please note that I am a Lahaina resident and I support the condition requiring the housing provider to supply water and wastewater sources, storage, and transmission lines to serve the project. Pulelehua has a water source and water storage and is awaiting county permits to install transmission lines, which satisfies the condition.

Once the condition is removed, the county can allow the project to move forward by issuing building permits.

This is a highly needed building project as Maui County residents are in dire need of affordable long-term housing. We are in a housing shortage crisis that has been enabled by Maui County's bad decisions. Please do what you can to help correct this and do whatever it takes to remove barriers that have stood in the way of construction. We need permanent housing for our West Maui residents now.

    Mahalo for your consideration,
    Ann Williams

It is frustrating to see the mandates and conditions implemented by our elected and unelected government officials stand in the way of affordable housing on the west side of Maui - the most urgent need of the residents - for the entire 27 years of my life. I fully support the project moving forward with as few roadblocks as possible. It was so encouraging to see the development begin, and there is so much excitement for it to continue. When rumors spread that the builder was considering pulling out of the project, I was devastated. I believe the county and the state has the responsibility and authority to ensure this project continues - and that they assist in whatever way possible to keep the Pululehua development going and provide much needed housing for the residents of the West Side of Maui - especially since many of them have been forced to relocate since the tragic wild fire of August, 2023. We need to do better for our people, and this is one small step in that direction.
