Affordable housing to BUY not Rent. What is wrong with you people? Let the developers keep getting richer and taking advantage of people.

    Aloha,
it is 15 months we live in temporary houses. We need to come back in a home. Please help the process to remove the barriers to build affordable houses for the community of Lahaina.
    Thank you.

What a shame it is to drive by this plot of land standing still for months and years with no hope of providing west Maui residents with the housing they desperately need. What a shame it would be to let all the hard work and struggle thus far go to waste - including that of the Mahinahina residents who suffered the red dust bowl and significant damage to their homes in sacrifice for this much needed residential project. How amazing it would be for those of us who have been on the email list and waiting for Pulelehua since we moved here in 2007! Now more than ever before, west Maui residents are crying out for your help! We fully support efforts to get this project up and running again!

We need more housing on the west side for our working community. There are a lot of workers on the west side who don’t qualify for affordable housing, yet don’t make enough to either buy their own house or pay the expensive rent which is now the norm. This has made a lot of our community move off the west side and off the island. Please pass the permits to continue construction for this community for all kamaaina’s best interest.

This is a VERY Curious proposal. Why remove a Condition that Requires a project to supply water to it's development when they claim they have Have the Water and infrastructure forth coming? My point in previous testimony was why do single family properties in Lahaina have to prove they have water, sewer, power , etc. before issued Permits to rebuild their family home lost to a fire that is not their fault and this huge project wants to NOT have to prove it has water for permits to build the project?
Yes, we need 'Affordable Units" more than ever but not at the risk that the residents of the project will be left holding the bag for the future water infrastructure in case something happens before Final inspection or the developer sells out and leaves. This project must be Bonded so the resident investors are protected at the very least. There are multiple examples throughout Maui County where this has happened, it's no exaggeration.
I am also NOT in favor of such a decision to set precedent to disregard Conditions of Zoning for developments. There is a reason why Conditions are put in place! To just Remove them is unthinkable!
Be careful what you wish for community. Ask the tough questions to protect yourselves!
Let's support a Great project with protections in place for the People.

I only oppose this because when this was originally planned the affordable units were for purchase not for rent. Why would anyone not want to OWN. The developer only changed to rent only after the fire so they are taking advantage once again. Change it to home ownership and I will support.

I fully support the water be granted at this neighborhood. We need these homes. I myself have been on the list for Pulelehua since 2007 when it was announced. I want to be able to move back to Lahaina side, my home for 21 years before the fire took so much from so many, and all of my work, forcing a move from Mahinahina to Kihei. I want to be back on the West side. Please grant water access.
