We need to get this project moving forward. I’m one of the families who fell through the cracks in getting any help after the fires. We have depleted our funds and really need to know if we are moving forward with this apartment project. Whatever needs to get done to move forward needs to happen. How can a major project that would help so many local families be put on hold? This should be priority for the west side!
Yes we do need affordable housing. But need to do things right. Concerns of project one is the out of state developer Paul Cheng. Which has no track record here in Hawaii. But has a felony record out of state with other development projects. Also the accountability of being funded 33 million dollars of our tax money to start this project. That being said this project falls under law chapter 104-1 prevailing wage. Which the developer could not provide certified payroll and allocation of funded money so far. Developer promised he had the water for this project which was not true. Also drilled for water without permits to find that the water that was drilled was not suitable to use. Now he wants to use other sources of water that is already allocated to certain projects for the rebuild of Lahaina. It seems like a shady deal with this out of state developer and i hope the county council can see who they are actually doing business with!!!!!!!!!
Here is an article from May 2024 written by Civil Beat. I encourage you the reader to read this article about this project to inform yourself. Yes we do need homes that local residents can afford to live in, but it has to be done following the law and with full transparency. Money has been dispensed at various stages from the county to this project which requires the developer to pay livable wages to the workers performing the tasks. There is information that slips through the cracks that the public must know first before supporting this project. Thank you for your consideration.

Hawaii LECET supports the the use of union-affiliated construction contractors and union
trade workers for the Pulelehua project. Construction projects in Hawaii financed by public
funds are required by State law to employ responsible contractors that pay their workers
the HRS Chapter 104 Prevailing Wage Rates and comply with all related Chapter 104 labor

If the Pulelehua project is not going to follow State laws and regulations, we urge you to
reject this project as it stands. Thank you for this opportunity to offer our testimony.
We have been living in the westside for 20 years. Our condo is gone, but we still pay the mortgage. We need a simple 2 bedroom that also allows dogs and this has been a challenge!
Affordable housing is desperately needed, especially for those on the westside that were affected by the wildfires. Please make amendments to not hold up this project from moving forward as quickly as possible to help address this urgent need.
Affordable housing please. We lost everything and still living in hotels. We need homes to go to and restart our lives again. For families and individuals with disabilities handicap housing for people who is on a budget on social security only. We all want to stay on the west side and stop being moved around. Please move forward. Mahalo
Please allow The building of this housing facility to support the people of Maui. The fire has devastated this comunity and we need to proceed in recovery by providing housing for the people who make up this community.
We need affordable homes built for our community. Affordable housing that our community can afford. Homes, not apartments. Affordable, not low income or high market. Affordable! We want to be homeowners!
Much needed
