I support the ban and if revenue is an issue I support a visitor tax. We should be taxing visitors and using that $ to subsidize more affordable local housing.

There is no righteousness in tourism. It is a sell out corporate agenda. Abusing our resources, manipulating our work force, and disrespecting our community. Follow the money and discover it doesn’t make our schools better, nor our infrastructure.

I oppose the proposed language of Bill 159 which seeks to delete the current language in Maui County Code 19.32.040 I (“Code”) which was established to clarify the status of long standing vacation rentals in Puamana and other West Maui communities. This clarification helps the planning department when approving building permits and SMA exemptions for remodels and renovations of these 40–60-year-old units. The proposed language would change the longstanding status in these communities which were built and used for Transient Vacation Rentals prior to April 20, 1989 from a permissible use into an existing non-conforming use. Please reject this change and consider possible alternative solutions that meet community needs while also protecting long-standing approved use in these developments and return Bill 159 back to the Planning Commission to allow for additional review and solutions.

I strongly support capping tourism as the over tourism is beyond capacity. Preserve our natural resources. Give our land the time it needs to heal again (like it did in 2020 with the reduction in tourism and sheer volume of visitors). Proof positive that less is more.

I am born and raised in Lahaina and tourism is out of control! The quality of life for residents has plummeted. It is no longer enjoyable to go places because of the constant overcrowding.
Tourism has come to a point where it is no longer sustainable and to keep going along this path is pure insanity.
