The problematic supply chain will just mean that many will grow hungrier. There's already extraordinarily long food lines. We on Maui need to find better solutions and this is one of them

Farmers need better housing options to support their successful operations!

We have an urgent problem here on Maui. Residents are unable to find housing. Please support this size allowance for farm dwellings in the agricultural districts. This is beneficial to us small scale multigenerational farmers, AND it’s also imperative for any farming operation that wants to farm affordably and offer housing to workers. It’s a way forward for feeding this precious island.

As someone raised on an avocado farm in 'Ulupalakua who is now living and working in a multigenerational farming family, I strongly support the support the proposed legislation identified as PSLU-42, which would expand allowable living area for second farm dwellings. Maui County is at a critical point in determining long-term equitable livability on the island, and housing and food security are at the core of the crisis. Because of the high cost of housing and land, farming affordably at scale is nearly impossible. Those who can farm are unable to effectively house the family and workers who could make the farm a successful endeavor to feed their community and the island. Communities around the island are in desperate need of both affordable housing and affordable, fresh, locally grown produce. This bill is one step in the right direction for our island's sovereignty.

I am in full support of PSLU-42 CC 21-555. Having the extra building allowance will help to alleviate constraints on family farms and provide much needed housing

I strongly support this bill. I am born and raised on Maui and have a young family. This is a sure way for local families to be able to work and live on Maui and will support our small farms and the community.

I strongly support the increase in size. I believe it would help the influx of illegal additions that so many are faced with because 1000sf homes are so limiting for growing families.

I strongly oppose INCREASING THE SIZE ALLOWANCE FOR SECOND FARM DWELLINGS IN THE AGRICULTURAL DISTRICT (PSLU-42). This is the second farm dwelling. Allowing larger dwellings will not make it more affordable for families but more profitable for investors. I would support dueplexing of the main farm house to create more units and allow for multigenration living without sprawl.
To put my comment in context: I live
comfortably in a home that is less than 1000 square feet with two children, two dogs, my husband and my mother. I support agriculture and families. I do not support developing farmland to serve investors.

Please do not support this. As a previous tenant of a so called Ag land farm, it causes major miss use of Ag land. Ag land owners will most likely abuse this by having foreign, (non-permitted) workers to work as woofers on the property. Not only that, but I’d this passes the county of Maui will likely lack in following up with properties and letting landowners away with housing Air BNBs and non workers. Please do not pass this.

This is a great idea and would help so many local farmers and their hard working families.

My husband Michael and I co-own and operate Lapa'au Farm in Makawao. We strongly support this bill! Increasing the square footage to 1500 square feet for the 2nd farm dwelling will substantially help small family farms live on the farm properties they work on. With the housing crisis here on Maui, this bill is more important than ever to provide adequate housing options for farmers.

Absolutely need an increase in square footage as I am a farmer with a toddler and another one on the way! Our little space is home but it sure would be nice to be allowed to expand as we continue to farm and care for the ‘āina!

Maui Farmers need support! Please allow for more square footage so that our farmers can have reasonable places to live. The housing crisis on Maui needs to be addressed and this is a good start.
