Aloha,
Please support this budget for funding affordable housing for us lahaina residents who are still displaced. We are the people of this town deserve to be able to live here too. Give our future generations hope to be able to live in this town that we all grew up in. Mahalo and God Bless
We don't need meetings, we need housing. Why are we repeating ourselves. Plenty corruption that's why no more for us. DEY OWE US
No matter what iz suggested will NOT be Az seen becauze of being unseen by our appointed officialz looking out for which iz their own O’Hana; az to Intereztz which iz of otherz az to streamlined system that iz being pointed @ towardz one’z ; az being many which gave & to have for which temporary plan ; az are only concern of what iz being lead by which iz many of same Perspective az that are acting az having which waz created by D’Roman’z az they ZZ what iz still available too which need to wake up too …
That Anonymouzly only can tell…
Thousands of West Maui residents still living in hotel rooms 8 months after the fire.
Over 25% of displaced West Maui residents forced to leave the island due to lack of housing.
87% of displaced West Maui residents are renters.
No funding allocated for long-term housing projects in West Maui since the fire.
Rebuilding affordable housing for Lahaina people
It is imperative that the council support these projects and prioritize the housing of Lahaina families. We are all struggling to find affordable housing since the fire and as pet owners that has only been amplified. It has never been a secret that we have 3 cats, but on Friday April 4 a FEMA representatives from direct lease actually asked us if we would be willing to give up our pets for a non cat friendly unit. When we said “no”, he told us that the refusal to do so may remove us from the DL program. He was supposed to contact us yesterday, we called and he never called back. So now we wait, and without affordable pet friendly units we may be homeless or forced to move away like so many others. Please support these projects so that we are not uprooted once again through no fault of our own.
If you tackle the Minatoya List, you will not need to spend a lot of time and money on construction.
Aloha,
I urge the County Council to Please support the Funding for these Critical Projects . For Us Families and Individuals That Lost Our Homes in the Fire, as we are still displaced . Please & Mahalo
Re: SB2919 SD2 HD1:
“Dear Chair Yamashita, Vice Chair Kitagawa, and Honorable Members of the Committees,
I am writing to express my strong support for SB2919, SD2 HD1, which clarifies that our counties have the clear right to phase out short-term rentals over a reasonable amount of time.
The Lahaina fires shed a clear light on the contribution that short-term rentals play in our housing crisis. Many communities across the state, including Lahaina, have been adversely affected by the proliferation of short-term rentals in apartment-zoned areas, exacerbating our housing shortage and driving up rental prices. This legislation seeks to provide local counties with increased autonomy to address issues according to their needs, without affecting current budgets. It allows for a thoughtful phase-out period, ensuring a smooth transition. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.
I have been a volunteer on Maui since September 13th eventhough I was told by someone of Red Cross that they did not need help from a CERT (Community Response Team Member) formed by my local at the time Bartow California Fire Dpt. I csme anyway because I had been given a shopping list of masks, wipes, etc by the locals onsicial media. I spent almost $400 on my own money to buy those supplies and paid the extra cargo on Hawaiian Airlines. I have volunteered at distribution centers, clean trash along the road from Kagana Gateway to mile 33. I have offered to help build tiny homes with no success in that. I had to relocate to Waihee. If the county delays any longer, locals will all be homeless on or off island and corporations will take over to build more unaffordable housing and only the rich will own this island. This is NOT what the people want and money should not be doing all the talking. Aloha should return to being the way of life that it used to be and mean.
I did not lose anything in the fire, only the chance to see the way it used to be.
I fully support the rebuilding of Lahaina according to what the people ask for versus the greedy power of a few.
I am still here and ready to help.
Two Critical Projects Await Funding:
1- Kaiāulu o Kupuohi: Rebuilding an apartment complex lost in the fire, offering 89 rental units.
2- Pulelehua Phase 1: Ready to build 240 pet-friendly units (60 for sale, 180 for rent) near the new temporary school on Akahele St., below the Kapalua airport.
I urge the County Council to support funding for these critical projects, prioritizing families and individuals displaced by the Lāhaina fire.
I would like to support this measure
It is with great urgency that funding is provided in support to building affordable homes in West Maui.
