I lived at Kaiaulu O Kupuohi and can you please support us and start the rebuilding this fiscal year. There is 35 families left from this project that was told to us in a meeting we had with all the residents. If you rebuild within this fiscal year we can open the rest of the units to Lahaina wildfire survivors. I am a single mom of 3 and this place allowed me to save money and I could actually not stress how I will pay this bill. Please support us Lahaina wildfire victims. We need long term housing now. I moved 6 times and still fema hasn't placed me in any long term housing as it is hard for them to get housing for me. I also support Pulelehua project as it will bring long term housing for all us Lahaina Families.

Please secure funding for these housing projects in West Maui. It really is the least you can do and really there should be many more similar projects in the works already. Prior to the fire, affordable long-term housing was already an issue for working class residents and locals. Now that it is 8 months post-fire, many of us who lost our homes are very concerned about securing long-term housing. We need the county to do more to help provide us with options for homes to rent and to buy. We are not asking for free housing. We are asking for affordable housing based on the wages we are paid. Without homes for the working-class to live, there will be no workers to support the tourism economy. Families that were born and raised here in the islands are having to move away from their culture and their native lands because of lack of housing. It is unacceptable that the county can do more to help support Native Hawaiians and working-class residents, but choose not to help. Please do your jobs and help those of us who live and work and are raised here to stay here. Mahalo.

I urge the council to prioritize funding for long term housing projects like Kaiāulu o Kupuohi and Pulelehua Phase 1 in West Maui. The statistics show the urgency: many residents remain in hotels, some forced to leave the island due to the housing shortage. With 87% being renters, immediate action is needed to provide affordable and sustainable housing solutions for our local community. It is unacceptable that no funding has been allocated for long-term housing projects in West Maui since the fire. We cannot afford to ignore the plight of our neighbors any longer. I implore the city council to take immediate action and prioritize the well-being of families & individuals displaced. By investing in these critical projects, we can provide much needed relief and stability to those who need it most. Please help to ensure that no one is left behind in our pursuit of a brighter future for West Maui.

Please move forward with funding for these housing projects in West Maui. It is desperately needed. More west Maui work force will be forced to leave island with out rentals and places to buy that are affordable.

West Maui desperately needs both Kaiāulu o Kupuohi and Pulelehua Phase 1 approval. Over 25% of displaced West Maui residents have had to leave the island for lack of housing. To date, no funding has been allocated for long term housing projects in West Maui since the fire.
Prior to the fire housing in Lahaina was already in dire need for the residents and workers on this island, especially West Maui. As a Lahaina resident for many years and ICU nurse here in Maui, I have not been able to secure or purchase long term housing for years now. Maui County needs to support its residents and workers that call Maui home.

Please, support Kaiaulu o Kupuohi and Pulelehua projects for the west Maui community who are still housed in hotels - 8 months after the fires. How can tourism come back without workers? Short term rentals should be banned for the long term health of our community!

Two Critical Projects Await Funding and it is imparitive that they get funded! As a voting resident of Maui county, I truly believe the people of Lahaina need to be housed in their community. It's imperative that we take care of the Lahaina families and provide them access of digified housing options in the wake of the horrible tragedy of the loss of our beloved Lahaina town!! Do not forsake them, we the people of the island are watching what is being done and the choices that are being made and will remember. Stand on the right side of history and create dignified housing for the people of Lahaina by supporting the building of these apartment complexes!!

Kaiāulu o Kupuohi: Rebuilding an apartment complex lost in the fire, offering 89 rental units.
Pulelehua Phase 1: Ready to build 240 pet-friendly units (60 for sale, 180 for rent) near the new temporary school on Akahele St., below the Kapalua airport.

The Maui fire relief funding that the mayor used for his security should have been used to support these housing projects. Unless that was a rumor going around social media. Makes u wonder where all the funding really went when half of the lahaina residents still need housing.

Im a resident in lahaina for more than 15 years, building affordable housing is urgently needed. A lot of residents and non resident are moving out of maui. How are you going to provide maui a better place and hospitality to serve your tourist. First, is for the state to build affordable housing and im interested for puleluhua units. Thank you

As a pediatrician who takes care of Maui’s keiki, I urge Maui City Council to prioritize housing for the residents displaced from the Lahaina Wildfires.

Despite assistance from the federal and state government, thousands of West Maui residents remain in hotel rooms eight months after the fire. Additionally, a quarter of displaced West Maui residents are forced to leave the island due to lack of affordable housing. So far, no funding has been allocated to long-term housing projects in West Maui since the fire, and eighty-seven percent of displaced West Maui residents are renters.

Housing is a major social determinant of health. Without it, other healthcare needs cannot be met. I have West Maui patients struggling with ADHD, anxiety, depression, asthma, high blood pressure, and obesity because their parents cannot find adequate and stable housing. Therefore, the housing crisis is also a public health crisis.

To address both crises, Maui County must focus on shovel-ready, long-term housing projects in West Maui to help displaced residents. Fortunately, there are two critical projects ready to start—they just need the greenlight:

    1) Kaiāulu o Kupuohi: Rebuilding an apartment complex lost in the fire, offering 89 rental units.

    2) Pulelehua Phase 1: Ready to build 240 pet-friendly units (60 for sale, 180 for rent) near the new temporary school on Akahele St., below the Kapalua airport.

I ask that Maui County place the health and well-being of displaced West Maui residents as one of their top priorities by approving ready-to-go, long-term housing projects. Thank you.
