Building housing outside of West Maui for West Maui people is not smart. Building new units in West Maui will benefit displaced families who are looking to rebuild that then can be used for affordable housing when the need eases.

I oppose bill 35 until after west maui is prioritized. Maui needs more affordable housing but the people of Lahaina that make up Lahaina need to be taken care of first. Lahaina has given so much for tourists and Maui, it is time to give back and help this precious place that I call home. Please put the people first. Lahaina deserves better! Lahaina Strong!

My name is Carlos Lamas, a West Maui resident, and I oppose Bills 34 and 35. My opposition is deeply rooted in the belief that affordable housing projects should prioritize community needs above all. Specifically, I believe West Maui should be at the forefront of the county's housing initiatives, especially after the devastating August 8th fires in Lahaina. These fires have severely worsened our already dire housing shortage, and it's clear to me that our West Maui community's recovery must be the main focus.

West Maui need the fire breaks enforced.
The lahaina bypass completed to bypass lahaina. The lahaina to Kaanapali bypass provides an evacuation route, and to provide a natural fire break past Kaanapali where there have been 5 more fires.
Maui needs new wood shake roofs banned! We still have high fire risk.
    Lahaina needs safe housing .
    Thank you

The West side doesn't necessarily mean " Lahaina only". Lahaina will take years to clean before any building can take place. But we NEED to build housing that bennefits all that lost their homes in the fires. Low income, affordable housing. Please put the people of Lahaina first. Mahalo

West Maui is in dire need of affordable homes. Support the people of West Maui before any other projects are considered. Thank you.

Please keep west side residents on the west side. Many people work and have kids in school there. The traffic to the west side is already horrendous, so adding even more traffic makes no sense. It also seems inhumane to make people relocate when temporary housing can be placed on the west side.
