I support this project because it protects the Maui county infrastructure including the road, waterline, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, electrical, internet... at the property owners expense.
Aloha Council members, I am in support of the Kahana beach restoration project, with regard to some of the comments from those who oppose this action: If the beach were to return it would be open to the public not just the property owners on the bay. Presently there are already groyes on Maui, this would help to stop the erosion of the property on the bay, this project would benefit all Maui residents. As a property owner for the last 31 years on Maui, it is time to address the erosion problem. Thank you for your consideration with this matter, Norman Matzke, Kahana Reef
It us only a matter of time that the County will suffer significant economic losses and property owners will as well. It's time to stop delaying this project and approve it. Soon Kaanapali will be the next to be the target of erosion. Important you act now.
As a long time tax payer and owner, I support stopping the erosion and preserving property. In my view that is the only socially responsible approach and I would urge the approval of this project.
This type of intervention is proven to be detrimental to the surrounding shoreline and environment. The property owners do not have special rights or privileges that trump those of everyone else.
Please consider the restoration of this beautiful part of west Maui, since the property owners are doing the heavy lifting with their wallets what else in good faith can we do?
Please pass the CFD that will allow the condominium owners that front the Kahana beach to pay for this project in its entirety. That’s right, despite some vague and misinformed posts about ‘tax dollars’ being spent on this, somehow reducing other public benefits, it’s just not true. The CFD raises a property tax on the 10 properties that immediately front the bay. The project will not detract from County Tax coffers, it will be paid by the owners in the very small and specific district and will PROTECT the county’s tax revenue.
I have been taking my family to Kahana beach since my daughters were infants, and they are now in their mid-twenties. The beach needs to be restored through this project so that we can all enjoy it - just like I remember. Another generation of young families can still enjoy Kahana bay if the council acts to get this going. Please do!
I think this does two things protects land and property, and restores a public beach for all to enjoy. I have lived in Kahana for almost 20 years and would love to see our sandy beach year-round.
I am an owner who plans to move into our unit but more importantly we have been owners and tax payers for years and want our investment to be sustainable and enjoyed by our family and ourselves for years to come .!! We have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes, payments and HOA dues not to speak of buying furniture and paying locals for work on our unit! and promoted Maui for over 23 years… we need action to be taken on this plan or all of us lose!! What objection can saving land raise? Why if I’m willing to pay an assessment to save our building should someone else’s opinion who has no skin in the game get to over rule the owners??!
We're loosing our beautiful beach.

As an owner in Hololani I support the KBSC and CFD work being done to save our beach and the Kahana Bay from any further erosion.
