Hi Tamara,
I am a owner at Napili Ridge condominium and would like to ask for help in repairing Hui Rd. F, Lahaina.
The road is is in desperate need of repair and is very dangerous. There are so many deep potholes that people drive on the wrong side of the road to avoid damaging their cars.
Pedestrians are also in danger especially at night because there are no lights or sidewalks.
I am hoping the city can take over this street because we are tax payers. Please forward this letter to whomever you think can help.
Sincerely,
Lori Boer
The state of Hui Rd F in Lahaina is very bad and getting worse. Neighbors had suggested that those of us who would be at work or otherwise busy on Mar 30th should write emails so that you would know the level of support.
• The density of potholes is so high that in areas there is not a way to avoid them even if you travel slowly.
• There are folks on this street who are lower income and cannot afford the front end alignments and other issues that are caused by driving over this terrible road multiple times per day.
• Private driveways and the surrounding roads are in much better shape. To me, this means that it has been an issue of allowing this road to fall into disrepair vs. something intrinsic to the soil. I'd expect that a proper repair would last many years.
• This road is our one way out in case of emergency. If it's due to a severe storm, I'd expect the potholes to swallow the road and for us to be cut off.
Thank you,
Matthew Burriesci, homeowner on Hui Rd F

I am a resident of Hui Rd F in Napili, Lahaina and am writing to support the group that is trying to ensure the council is allocating funds to repair our street. There are potholes throughout the length of the street and the sides of the road are now crumbling too. Every time it rains the situation becomes worse and soon it will become untenable.
As a HI tax payer and resident I would like to know that my tax payments are being used for our street as well as other streets in the west Maui area. None of my taxes have been used for street improvements on Hui Rd F whatsoever. It is about time the council started to spend my taxes to keep my street driveable!
I would like this email to be used to support the group of Hui Rd F residents at the community budget hearing at the Lahaina Civic Cente on March 30th.
I own a home at 150 Hui Rd F and the road is in need of resurfacing due to many potholes. I would like to request you to budget the funds needed to repair Hui Rd F.
I own a Condo at Napili Ridge (G1 )and I'd like to add my name to those who are looking for some of their tax money to be spent to repair Hui Rd. F

I live on Hui Rd F and have for almost 20 years. I can't make it to the meeting on Thursday but wanted to express my concern. There have always been potholes, however they are getting worse. It's dangerous since everyone drives on the wrong side to avoid them. We weave in and out and it's really not safe, not to mention the damage it does to our vehicles. My complex fills the potholes in front of our property consistently. This is not enough as the entire road needs to be professionally scaled and repaved. I'm confused as to why we have county signs on the road, however the county doesn't maintain it. We have previously expressed concern to Elle Cochran and had several meetings with her and that went nowhere.
Our research tells us that there are 251 properties on Hui Rd F with 42 separate addresses. The average annual property tax is $1466. This is approximately $368k yearly in property taxes on the low end. This doesn't take into consideration the vacation rentals who also pay TA taxes. Is there a financial statement that shows where the money generated from our road is going?
It was mentioned that if the county took our road over, we would have to pay a surcharge or additional taxes. Why are we paying property taxes if they don't go towards the roads? We have watched highway 30 get paved numerous times throughout the last few years when it was not needed. I also pay a lot of money in GE taxes which is paid to Honolulu. I'd prefer to have that money spent here as I'm sure most would agree. Where are all of our tax dollars going if the back roads are not maintained? Inquiring minds want to know!
Thank you for your time.

Dear Council member Paltin:
I have been an owner of a condominium at Napili Ridge Condominium complex for over 30 years. During that time I have witnessed and experienced the deterioration of Hui Road F to the point that year after year vehicles of the residents being victims of pothole damages; pedestrians being
endangered by drivers trying to avoid potholes because residents and young children are forced to walk in the street because there is no safe pathway for them to get to the main road.
Previous attempts by residents to have the road maintained and repaired have been unsuccessful.
I respectfully request and deplore you and your fellow council members to use our tax dollars to make the necessary repairs and repairs to Hui Road F for the health and safety of the residents, young and old.

Hi Tamara,
I know you are probably getting a lot of emails about the potholes. Mine might be a little different. I have been on this street for 23 years. My family and I own 3 residences on Hui F. While I understand needed pavement I am also concern that will increase speed issue. I have been around to see the worst - Freddie’s daughter and my daughters were same age when she died and I was there next door and could hear his pain and I that still shakes me. I know you Are close to the family. My daughters are old enough to recognize speeding now but I worry for all the younger families on this street.
If this is something the county will even consider would like it to only happen with gradual soundless speed bumps or something similar. If we can’t have that I am perfectly fine with potholes.
a sidewalk would be incredible but I know that’s a miracle ask. But I still believe in miracles.
My name is Janis Martinez. I live at 120 Hui Rd F in Napili Ridge condos.
My testimony is for support in fixing the potholes on Hui Rd F.
That street is the most critical for repairs on the Westside. We have lost access on the right hand side of the street and soon the left side will also no longer be drivable. There are so many potholes that the street will most likely need to be repaved. Please help the residents. We need a road to access our neighborhood.
Thank you.
My daughter used to live on Hui F. I am asking Maui County, the richest county in the country, to pave this road. . I am also asking Maui County to resurface the following roads in Wailuku: Lower Main Street between Waiehu Beach Road and Mill Street, Mill Street, Central Avenue, Vineyard Street, and Kanaloa Avenue. I am also asking the county to resurface Kane Road in Kahului.
I am also asking the county to build another Field House in Wailuku, like the one at the Haiku Community Center. I am requesting that the county makes this new Wailuku Fieldhouse dedicated to pickleball and I request they they out in at least 6 permanent pickleball courts.
Aloha, as a 38 year resident of Hui Rd. F. I ask the County of Maui pave this road. Cut through the red tape of road ownership and pave this dangerous road. It has been way too long and we are in great need of this.
Please add funds from the budget to fix the potholes on Hui Rd F Napili
This road has been in disrepair for many years and it is a hazard for walkers, joggers, keiki in strollers, and cyclists, along with folks driving/riding in automobiles or motorcycles.
In my research I have found no other roads in Napili with such a pothole problem with the majority of roads with no potholes at all.
I won’t go into the various minor or major accidents that have &/or could have resulted from this very dangerous road.
Please feel free to contact me for any additional information you may require.
