PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE PUT A MORATORIUM ON BUILDINGS FOR VISITORS. IT IS WAY, WAY, WAY PAST TIME TO DO THIS. FOR HEAVEN SAKES, HOW ABOUT THINKING OF LOCAL KAMAAINA. YOU HAVE MADE A TERRIBLE MESS OF MAUI'S BEAUTY ALREADY. IT HAS BECOME A CONCRETE JUNGLE. BLDGS. AND STORES THAT HAVE BEEN BUILT IN THE PAST NOW LIE VACANT. CAN YOU NOT SEE THIS??????????????????????????? ALSO, PLEASE STOP THE HOTEL PLANS IN WAILUKU WHERE I GREW UP.

We are south Maui residents and urge you to please implement this moratorium and extend it to the rest of the island. The extreme tourism housing is not only a drain on public infrastructure but also has a seriously detrimental effect on affordable/workforce housing. Housing shortages and costs disproportionately harm workers relied upon to serve tourists. We live in a condo complex where only a few of us out of 100+ units live here. We cannot continue to allow only extraction and nothing being given back to the kanaka and aina. Take a pause and let’s try to give a boost to people who live and work here. Mahalo.

Please see my previous comment - I selected Oppose in error - I SUPPORT this moratorium; here are my previous comments:PLEASE DO NOT authorize a permit to build yet another tourist accomodation/hotel on Maui. Enough is enough. There are more than enough hotels and other places for visitors to stay.
We have allowed the sacrifice of the health and beauty of our community in pursuit of the almighty tourist dollar. NOW is the time to stop; for our health, for the health or our beautiful environment, and to encourage the community to find sustainable ways to support our community - i.e., diversifying into sustainable agriculture, expanding the support and education of farmers, providing for ag processing facilities, committing more aggressively to alternative energy, focusing on affordable housing, and limiting the number of visitors on an annual basis - we are overrun with tourists.

As a full time, permanent resident of South Kihei, I strongly support IT-54, the moratorium on building permits for visitor accomodations. South Maui is already jammed with visitors. The parking lots for the beaches, the beaches themseves, and the roads are all over crowded. Residents and visitors alike are not enjoying the crowds. Visitors come to Maui because it was not so crowded as Oahu. This will change if we don't change.
Actually, I strongly support modifying the bill to include all of Maui County, or ar least South and Westp Maui where the visitor numbers have grown exponentially.
Please save our island for residents to enjoy as well as the tourists. If we don't act now, it will be too late to go back.
    Respectfully,
    Jo Ginger

I support adhearing to IT-54 and having it include ALL of Maui County. Look at the big picture and not a fearful approach to the huge problem of too many tourists. Emphasize QUALITY.

I am in support of MORATORIUM ON BUILDING PERMITS FOR VISITOR ACCOMMODATIONS (IT-54). Please, please look at what is happening to this majestic place, the land, the ocean, the culture and the people who have been born and raised here. Don't allow it to be taken away. There are more than enough accommodations for tourism at this point. Let Maui thrive in it's natural state.

I am in support of the Moratorium on Building Permits for visitor accommodations. Lately tourism has again exceeded levels
of tolerance for the population here. A restraint needs to happen and harmonizing to protect Mauis natural resources.
