Hello, My name is William Travis Rice. I am a property owner and resident at 2112 Kaupakalua Rd, Haiku, 96708. I would like to encourage the Maui County Council to support the Paia Youth & Cultural Center's Lease Expansion and Extension! Over its multi decade history, the PYCC has become not only a North Shore Maui institution but also an island wide institution for generations of Maui youth, their parents, and the overall community. I worked at the PYCC in the early 2000's, served a Board Member, and now my 10 year old son goes to the PYCC. The PYCC is one of the community gems on Maui, it brings the community together in a common cause, positively enriches our youth, and in general has a positive effect on Maui and its families.
PYCC is literally the glue for our North Shore community. I do not know of another facility and organization that put so much into supporting and providing for their youth like PYCC does. PYCC is a source of pride for Maui and I hope receives whatever backing the County of Maui can provide.
Aloha my name is Melekai Jenson and I am humbly asking for your support in the PYCC Lease Extension and Expansion. I am currently an elementary school teacher at Pōmaikaʻi Elementary School. I grew up going to the PYCC as a youth and then working there as the House Host, Girlʻs CLub Leader and Community Service Intake Coordinator. While I was employed at the PYCC I realized how much I loved working with youth and how important it is to have good programs for them to participate in. During my time working there, I went back to college and graduated with my Bachelor in Education. PYCC not only fosters relationships, creativity, education and well being, but it does so in a safe place. Many youth donʻt always have this at home and being able to have that one place to call home is so important for Mauiʻs youth with warm and caring adults to help guide them. Once again please support the PYCC Lease Extension and Expansion.
