The County is asking the Council to repeal the 1998 Kihei-Makena Community Plan without providing the public with a complete accounting of what was accomplished, what was not accomplished, what it cost, and why major commitments remain unfinished. Before we adopt another 20-year plan, we should know how government performed under the last one.
Please see the attached regarding lack of roadway egress in the event of a wildfire (which the plan identifies as a key regional risk but suggests no remedy). Adding more development to the area without addressing this safety risk is, simply stated, irresponsible at best.
