### Resolution 24-100 — Open Space, Natural Resources, Cultural Resources, and Scenic Views Preservation Fund for Wildfire Fuel Removal
**Position: SUPPORT**
Aloha Chair Batangan and Members of the Committee,
I testify in support of Resolution 24-100. Authorizing the use of this fund for regular fuel hazard removal is a direct, practical response to the conditions that contributed to the catastrophic August 8, 2023 Lahaina wildfire — overgrown, untended vegetation acting as fire fuel in proximity to homes and communities. This is a preventative use of County resources that protects lives first. My only ask of the Committee is to ensure that fuel mitigation spending does not crowd out the fund's original cultural and natural resource preservation purposes — both goals can and should coexist, with the County tracking spending separately so beneficiaries can see both purposes are being honored. I ask the Committee to advance this resolution.
