    ### Resolution 26-85 — Remove English Translation of the Hawaiʻi State Motto from the Preamble
    **Position: SUPPORT**

Aloha Chair Batangan and Members of the Committee,

I testify in strong support of Resolution 26-85. "Ua mau ke ea o ka ʻāina i ka pono" does not require an English gloss to carry its full meaning and mana. As a Native Hawaiian community media producer and a candidate for OHA Trustee At-Large, I see this resolution as a small but meaningful act of cultural sovereignty — allowing our state motto to stand in its original language, on its own terms, in our County's founding document. This is a step toward ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi being treated as a primary, fully sufficient language in civic life rather than something perpetually filtered through translation. I ask the Committee to advance this resolution.

    Mahalo,
