BFED-4 Bill 92 (2025) BILL 92 (2025), AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION FOR A JOINT TERRORISM TASK FORCE (BFED-4)
Testimony from UNITE HERE Local 5
Testimony in Opposition to Bill 92 (2025)
Chair Sugimura, Vice Chair Kama, and Committee Members,
UNITE HERE Local 5 represents 10,000 working people in the hotel, food service and health care industries across Hawaii. We are opposed to Bill 92 (2025). We do not feel that the federal administration’s actions represent who we are as a union, and we are highly concerned about the direction these actions are going, especially with regard to how members of our communities are treated and our rights under the law.
We have no confidence that the FBI – a part of the Executive Branch – has any intention of changing course.
We do not believe that the Maui Police Department should share data, staff, or resources with the FBI at this time. It is not in the interests of working people or our communities.
