I am strongly in support of the adoption of the Maui County DoA's Food & Nutrition Security Plan. This plan’s goals, objectives and actions reflect our community’s greatest food security needs.
Maui County is LONG overdue in investing in our community’s food security with this clear roadmap. As federal funding cuts threaten our islands’ food assistance programs, we need County investment in food access programs. This plan outlines a road map to food security and self sufficiency, and these actions need support and funding.
This plan gives Maui County and all of our food producers and organizations working to end hunger a collective mission and actionable steps to achieve food security together. We ask that Maui County and Council use this plan to guide the Council’s work and investments, to ensure that our community’s needs are front and center in their decision making.
