Reminding this Committee and the community that rotational grazing remains an effective methodology for soil building to assist with fire mitigation. I have testified to this before and I mentioned this to the Fire Chief at a Kaupo Community meeting last year. The rotational grazing practice is within many materials of Firewise best practices. I am speaking from experience, having been raised on a cattle ranch wherein my father exercised rotational grazing.

To clarify the comment made by Elizabeth Picket, there was a grant awarded in Maui County. I wrote and was awarded a USDA grant for soil remediation and fire mitigation. There will be a presentation on this body of work. I look forward to seeing County Council members attend. I will continue to invite representatives to the progress presentations.

A reminder that the annual event Resource Recovery Maui is in its 7th year and will be covering the subject of rotational grazing as a best practice. Please consider attending this informational conference. All council members have been invited for the last six years. This is a mechanism to increase knowledge so that you can confidently contribute to the work as a decision body when a cost-share grant is presented.

Thank you to Council members Sinenci and Rawlins-Fernandez for attending this Resource Recovery Maui event in the past.
