RE: RESOLUTION 24-83, RELATING TO THE APPOINTMENT OF MARIA ZIELINSKI AS DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

Dear Chair U’u-Hodgins, Vice Chair Paltin, and Members of the Committee,

Thank you for the opportunity to provide testimony in support of the confirmation of Ms. Maria Zielinski as the Director of Finance for the County of Maui.

I have known Ms. Zielinski for more than 15 years from when we previously worked together at the County of Maui. While I served as the County’s Director of Finance, I hired Ms. Zielinski to lead the accounting system division in the department of finance as its administrator. Over the years since, I have had the opportunity to work with Ms. Zielinski in her various roles leading departments in county government and at the state-level of government. In all instances, Ms. Zielinski has had to take on substantial roles in leading aspects of financial and fiscal management in government. I can attest that the burden and decisions that need to be made to ensure the sound financial stewardship of government and tax-payer funds is a major undertaking to bear. I believe that Ms. Zielinski has the background and experience to benefit the County of Maui. She is well prepared to take on the challenges in the role as its Director of Finance.

I support Maria Zielinski’s nomination for the position of County of Maui Director of Finance and urge the members of the Committee to support her selection by voting favorably on her nomination and advancing Resolution 24-83 for full County Council approval.

    Sincerely,

    Kalbert K. Young
