    Subject: Animal funding

As a long time resident of Maui I support HARF & all the amazing work they do and they definitely deserve this funding! They stepped up and did an amazing job after the fires, working tirelessly to help the community during this tragedy. For many years they have helped find homes for many of the island’s homeless animals. This funding will ensure that this vital work continues. Mahalo for your time, Susan Kissel Kihei Hawaii

    Subject: Grant

    To whom it may concern,

Please consider giving HARF the grant they are petitioning for. They are an extremely important part of the Maui community in that they care for so many animals, find them loving homes, do community outreach and education for our youth, and have done so much extra work to help families with their animal care especially after the wildfires.

I volunteer and am so impressed with how the facility is run, but as we know, there is a huge need for more help with our island animal population. Please help HARF continue and expand on their wonderful work for the community.

    Mahalo,
    Eve Hyder

Subject: 133 Ag acres - Haiku - Pauwela

Over 133-acres of Ag zoned lands across from The Haiku Community Center are for sale and deserve immediate preservation. These parcels contain the traditional access road to the Pauwela Lighthouse, which the County owns. The lot most makai is 82 acres and is being sold for $3.5M. The next lot mauka is 44 acres is being sold for $2.0M. The last lot is next to Hana Hwy, is 6.7 acres and is being sold for $1.3M. Total acreage is 133 acres.

Why should these lands be protected:
These historically important lands hold a traditional Mauka-Makai trail to Puniawa Bay (aka “K-Bay”) and the County’s Pauwela Lighthouse park. Public trails through private lands regularly end up getting “closed” by the landowners- let’s avoid conflicts and put these lands into public ownership.

They are also connected to local Kanaka Maoli families whose ancestors were awarded the lands in kingdom times.

The location would be useful for a future an agriculture park and cultural Park- giving our community room to expand its active park space. Some of the lands have native plantings tended by Hawaiian organizations.

Please include $6.8 million of Open Space Funding for the three Pauwela Parcels!! Please collaborate with HILT (Hawaii Land Trust) to make this possible!!
