    Subject: Funding for H.A.R.F.

    To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing in support for funding for the Hawaii Animal Rescue Foundation, aka HARF.

This rescue is vital to the animals of Maui and they deserve the support and backing of the county. Funding for them helps and saves the lives of countless deserving animals. Without this rescue, hundreds of animals would not receive the shelter and medical care.

Rescues everywhere are struggling as more and more pets are surrendered and abandoned to become strays. The community and animals need the unconditional and unwavering support of this rescue.

Please approve the grant they are requesting so they can expand and continue to save the lives of these innocents.

    Mahalo, Heidi Sewell

    Subject: HARF Grant

    To whom it may concern,

I have been a supporter and volunteer at HARF, the Hawaiian Animal Rescue Foundation, since after the fires in August 2023.

HARF has done an amazing job taking care of Maui's animals, both those looking for their forever homes and animals who lost their homes in the fires and needed a kind and loving place to stay while their human parents navigate the resulting devastating loss and housing situation, as well as animals who have been abandoned or surrendered. They accommodate all creatures great and small… From rabbits and goats, to dogs and cats and horses. This is an incredibly hard-working group of people, and Dawn Pfendler, their founder, is exceptional and tireless! They are providing VITAL services and care for our Maui animals in need. It is because of this, and in the spirit of our island's kuleana, that I urge you to give this grant to HARF.

    Mahalo for your consideration,

    Sibet Hyder Alspaugh

Subject: My Testimony on behalf of HARF (Hawaii Animal Rescue Foundation)

Aloha, My name is Sherri and I am an advocate for animals in despair and their voice. A year ago I came across a neglected and abused dog who was not even a year old, she was also pregnant. It’s was sad to see her suffering at the hands of her abusive owner and once she had her babies I had to do something to give all of them a chance for a better future. I was hopeless and time was running out, it was urgent that they needed care and a safe place. I immediately contacted the owner and pleaded for their release since he was in no position to care for such a large litter of puppies, ten to be exact. I was fortunate to be able to convince him to release them in my care. That is where HARF came in, I was lucky enough to come into contact with these angels who graciously embraced me and these animals with assurance that they are in good hands now and to not worry anymore. The compassion I received was overwhelming and I was so grateful and relieved that I knew in my heart that these puppies would be in good hands and cared for. They took them in and gave them the necessary medical attention that was needed. In no time they were in foster homes and eventually in their forever homes. Thank you HARF for the incredible love, care and compassion shown in our communities and for the powerful impact of the programs and services you provide. This foundation is a beacon of hope for the future.
