I wholeheartedly support Kilia Avelino-Purdy’s appointment to the INB Molokai seat.

As Ho’olehua Homestead Assn President and former Ho’olehua Agriculture Homestead Assn Board member, I have worked directly with Kilia for six years. Family and community needs often supersede her own education aspirations (EdD) but she is always learning and I find her to be one of the most knowledgeable people around.

I ask the Council to approve Kilia’s appointment to the INB.

Aloha! I strongly support Mayor Bissen's appointment of Kilia Waiomina Ilona Avelina-Purdy to the Independent Nomination Board Molokai seat.

I have sat on various selection committees, boards, and Molokai community projects with Kilia and know that she always has her community's (homestead, Molokai island, Maui county, state of Hawaii) best interests at heart. She is fair and unbiased in her decision making and as an educator always, always does her homework first. She fights for what is just and always has our youth and their future in mind when she chooses to act.

I encourage the Council to approve Mayor Bissen's appointment of our community advocate Kilia Avelino-Purdy to the Molokai seat.

    Aloha,

I writing today in strong and full support of Kilia Purdy-Avelino being the representative for Maui Countyʻs Independent Nomination Board Molokai Seat. I have known and worked with Kilia for over a year now through the Hawaiʻi Farmers Union United and as champions for our ʻāina and kānaka maoli people. Kilia is an incredibly intelligent, rooted, and powerful mana wahine that our Maui Countyʻs Independent Nomination Board would be fortunate to have. She weaves the understanding and values of our ancestral sciences and culture with the challenges and opportunities we face in this modern/contemporary world to come up with solutions that address social injustices to matters of food and nutrition security. She is a champion that will protect, preserve, and perpetuate the prosperity of Molokai and Maui Nui is a whole. Kiliaʻs commitment to our ʻāina, people/community, natural resources, and cultural resources uniquely qualifies her to provide invaluable perspective and manaʻo to guide the INB process. The INB would be fortunate to have her be a part of this group. She has been and continues to be ready, willing, and able to serve Maui County which is one of many reasons why I support Kilia Purdy-Avelino for Maui Countyʻs Independent Nomination Board Molokai Seat.

Solomon Kahoʻohalahala, submitting testimony/comment on Resolution 24-15: INDEPENDENT NOMINATION BOARD FOR THE COUNTY OF MAUI.
I would like to support the appointment of Kilia Waiomina Ilona Purdy-Avelino to the Molokaʻi board seat. I have personally worked with Kilia for several years in our collaborative efforts to support the conservation of our natural resources from Mauka to Makai on the islands of Molokaʻi, Maui and Lānaʻi. She is very dedicated, diligent, meticulous in her work and comes with efficiency in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and cultural values and practices. She will be an asset to the board and to the County of Maui. She is highly qualified for this appointment. Mahalo for your consideration.
