Aloha my name is Olani Lilly and I am sharing my support on behalf of Changemakers Community Economic Development Corporation, a nonprofit organization located on Hawaiʻi island.

I am writing to provide a strong endorsement for Yummet and Brittany Zimmerman as an amazing community partner. Brittany was an eager partner in helping us access and understand the benefits of biochar for our Hawaiʻi island farmers. They were a key partner in successfully receiving Regional Conservation Partnership funding through USDA. I have had the pleasure of collaborating with Yummet on various agricultural and environmental initiatives, and I am confident in their ability to assist us in making a meaningful impact.

Changemakers Community Economic Development Corporation is a nonprofit organization located on the island of Hawaiʻi. Changemakers is championing economic equity and justice by promoting economic development that engages communities, creates access to financial resources, and supports passion professions.

Yummetʻs commitment to sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship aligns perfectly Changemakers and our work. Yummetʻs commitment to community engagement and collaboration is exemplary. They have a proven track record of working closely with local stakeholders, agricultural experts, and community members to ensure that projects are not only successful but also inclusive and culturally sensitive. This is particularly crucial in Hawaiʻi, where the agricultural community is diverse and deeply connected to the cultural fabric of the islands.

On behalf of the Kaahui Ohana:
As the Council and County explore alternative solutions for toxic waste removal and remediation, there are other vendors such as Crowley, and Clean Harbors who would like the opportunity to submit proposals and work to secure gap funding should expenses fall outside the established budget. Funding can be derived from government grants and philanthropic sources outside of FEMA and County sources.
Using an option like shipping containers will mitigate the urgency, ideas like this can be brainstormed and vetted. Funding should never be on the front when brainstorming because it preempts a discussion.
Crowley is familiar with responding to large scale disasters like the Haiti Earthquake and Hurricane Maria.

On behalf of Kimokeo Ohana of Lahaina we oppose establishing the County of Maui's Temporary Debris
Staging Reduction Site and Weigh Station at the Olowalu Cinder Pit in the County of Maui, Hawaii.

Our Ohana supports alternative remedies such as containing debris from the 2023 Wildfire in Cargo Containers until an appropriate final disposal site can be determined.

Note: Any site selected, albeit on-Island or off-Island the debris in its entirety will take months to be removed. The health risk to the environment and community is not negated. Continued exposure to the elements is a health risk to everyone.

Containment of the 2023 Wildfire Debris is paraount.
