As a resident of Ho'olehua, Molokai, who is involved in community matters, I strongly oppose the appointment of Robert Stephenson. Attached is a more viable candidate Kilia Purdy-Avelino who has long ohana legacy connections to Molokai. Mr Stephenson's background in real estate and chamber of commerce can have strong influence in a direction the island residents do not support.

Aloha Chair U’u-Hodgins and Members of the GREAT Committee:

I’d like to take this opportunity to voice my support for Mayor Bissen’s nomination of Jennifer Sullivan of South Maui for the Independent Nomination Board (INB).

I had the recent opportunity to attend most of the South Maui Community Plan Advisory Committee meetings over the last year where Ms. Sullivan was a member of that committee. She was very poised, prepared, independent, and asked concise questions in a manner that told me she understood how being on a board should be approached.

These personal qualities will reflect well on her contributions to the INB’s deliberation of various candidates for the many boards and commissions that county government relies upon.

As someone who works in and manages private sector recycling and material recovery, she understands how collaborative environments of community-minded problem solvers can make sound recommendations and decisions on Maui County’s boards and commissions.

Finally, her ties to many aspects of the South Maui community and knowledge of the issues will also serve her and all of Maui quite well on the INB.

Mahalo for the opportunity to support Ms. Sullivan for the INB.
