Maui Economic Opportunity was appropriated $199,000 in CDBG funds for a new bus for Human Services transportation on Moloka‘i. However, since the fires, MEO has agreed to allow those CDBG funds to be reprogrammed for rebuilding and other needs.
Moloka‘i will not be losing out on a new bus. The state Department of Transportation recently notified MEO that 5310 funding will provide MEO a new wheelchair-accessible bus for Moloka‘i.
Given the tremendous losses from the wildfires and MEO still receiving a new bus from the state, the decision to repurpose the CDBG funds is a sound one.
