Subject: Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Cuts And Funding For Hone Heke Corporation dba Expeditions
Dear Chair Sugimura, Vice Chair Kama, and Members of the County Budget, Finance, and Economic Development Committee
I was recently informed that due to proposed budget cuts for the Fiscal Year 2024, shown in Bill 94 (2023) from the Administration, my organization/business, Hone Heke Corporation dba Expeditions will not be able to receive a grant from the County in the requested amount $500,000.00. I am writing to respectfully request that our full proposal be granted by the County so that we may continue to operate and serve the community. Please do not approve any cuts that will impact our funding, and please also consider securing our funding with a budget line item if and when it is possible.
Due to the August 8 fires, Hone Heke Corporation dba Expeditions, has suffered major losses and hardship including, Complete inventory of boat parts and supplies, all of our office contents and one vessel. These losses have impacted our ability to fully operate and fulfill the critical needs of Maui County.
