Why was Dr. Jonathan Likeke Sheuer’s nomination rescinded in the first place? We don’t need people on this authority who have no track record of helping this tight knit community or let alone being of this community. Perhaps it’s certain peoples agenda for our communities to get nowhere other than to be subjected to plantation politics for the next hundred years. Stop the insanity and stop clowning around with our futures.

Dr. Sheuer is a trusted leader in our community let alone a a strong and solid advocate for water rights on behalf of the Hawaiian homes commission, and homesteads beneficiaries.

I would like to offer comments on the proposed appointment of a DHHL representative to the east Maui water authority. I understood that until recently, perhaps this morning, the nominee was going to be Dr. Jonathan Likeke Scheuer. While beneficiaries were never consulted by then-chair Designate Anderson, Likeke is well known among beneficiary communities across Hawaii for his consistent advocacy of the water rights of the commission, the beneficiaries, and the department.
Here is a list of reasons why he should be added to the list for DHHL Seat:
    • He has clear expertise and knowledge of water systems, water law, and water policy, and he even is the co-author of a book about water on Maui.
    • We have recently though heard reports that either a union representative for a custom home builder will now be the nominee, by Watson.
    • We think it is important for the Council to know that beneficiaries were never consulted on this process, and we don’t know the nominees, expertise or commitment to advocate for our interests.
    • The Hawaiian Homes Commission adopted a Water Policy Plan in 2014 it was the first formal policy on water since the passage of the act in 1921, and it was developed after two years of extensive beneficiary consultation. • One of the provisions of that policy specifically requires the Chairperson to prepare an annual Implementation Program for this Water Policy Plan, which shall be subject to the approval by HHC.
    • The Water Policy Plan also specifies that the Chairperson shall consult with the HHC on any major water issues not contained in the Implementation Program.
    • Since there has been no consultation on this major issue, I want the council to know that I, and other beneficiaries will be seeking the Hawaiian homes commission to consult with us the beneficiaries, as well as with the chairman on this critical and important decision.
