HLU-2(1) Direct Referral HOUSING PROJECTS UNDER CHAPTER 2.97, MAUI COUNTY CODE: RESOLUTIONS 23-78, 23-79, AND 23-80, RELATING TO THE HALE MAHAOLU KE KAHUA RENTAL HOUSING PROJECT (WAILUKU) (HLU-2(1))
I am opposed to Hale Mahaolu Ke Kahua Community Affordable Rentals. I was present and testified in opposition at the Maui County Council meeting when this proposal initially came up and for first two Housing and Land Use Committee meetings. There was so many testifiers opposed to this project, not the plan but the location. The infrastructure is lacking, there are floods that have already occured. The roads and schools are at overcapacity. Please consider moving it to Puunene. In addition we should preserve our ag land which is detailed in the Maui Community Plan. Mahalo, Ann Pitcaithley
I strongly oppose the Hale Mahaolu Ke Kahua Rental Housing Project. The location is not suitable or appropriate for this development. Due to flooding, infrastructure, and traffic concerns, I ask that you disapprove the project. Mahalo.
My understanding of the Community Plan is that we want to protect our Ag land and to protect our open spaces to prevent turning our communities into continuous development. The Maholu Ke Kahua project would violate both purposes. We ALL want affordable rentals but surely you can find a place for this development where the residents don't have to deal with all the infrastructure problem, where we can save our Ag land and where the development would enhance the environment, not contribute to the degradation of our environment. And it would be cheaper to put it some place where these problems have already been solved. Surely you can come up with a win-win: provide the housing AND protect the environment.
