GREAT-1(12) Reso 23-46 APPOINTMENT AND REMOVAL OF ADMINISTRATIVE HEADS OF DEPARTMENTS (RESOLUTION 23-46, RELATING TO THE APPOINTMENT OF ROGERENE "KALI" ARCE AS DIRECTOR OF AGRICULTURE) (GREAT-1(12))
Aloha Chair Nohelani U‘u-Hodgins and Vice-Chair Tamara Paltin,
I stand in strong support of the re-appointment of Director Rogerene "Kali" Arce. My name is Weston Yap, the former Deputy Director of the Dept. of Ag. for Maui County, & now the Legislative Aide for Senator Tim Richards of District 4, Hawaii Island. I had the pleasure of working with Director Arce for six months, as she laid out the foundation to fulfill the Departments' seven responsibilities and the duties required in Maui County Bill 105 (FY2022). Director Arce is qualified in terms of education, work experience and family agricultural experience. She is a planner with a long-term vision. Even more important, she has the community relationships and networks to build consensus and cooperation. I have witnessed her building bridges and spurring action with Hawaiian homesteaders, industrial agriculturists, NGO staffers and government officials. Her ability to speak in the languages of both ohana connection and agricultural extension "technicalese" enable her to get big things done. Director Arce is a state level talent and resource if you compare her resume with other agriculture officials. Once she masters the grants writing, legislative and bills process, Maui County will see major progress - buckle up!
I will continue to look to her for leadership and support her agriculture mission to feed our community whenever possible.
Mahalo for the opportunity to speak in strong support of Director Rogerene "Kali" Arce.
