I support Marc Takamori as the Director for Transportation. Mr. Tamamori has proved his skill set as a valuable asset to the County of Maui during the last four years where he has served as Director.
Aloha esteemed members of the Maui County Council,
I am writing in strong support of the appointment of Marc Takamori as Director of Maui County's Department of Transportation.
In my capacity as the current Deputy Director of the City and County of Honolulu's Department of Transportation Services, I have had the privilege of working directly with Marc on transit and transportation initiatives affecting Maui and our whole state. He is an effective leader and a consummate professional, drawing collaborative citizens, strong government leaders, and progressive minds to work together towards thoughtful island sustainability.
Specifically, Marc's past work brings constant and consistent positive change to Maui's bus and parking programs. He has been a steady hand progressing his department forward through his tenure at Maui County. Although his kuleana is firstly rooted in Maui Nui, he is a notable piece of the interconnected leadership between county and state transportation partners, both with my department, Kaua'i and Hawai'i Counties, and extending to the State Department of Transportation.

I am writing to express my support for Mr. Marc Takamori to be re-appointed to serve as the Maui County Director of Transportation.
As the Hawai‘i State Representative for House District 10, which encompasses the community of Waikapū to Wailuku to Sand Hills on Maui along with the newly elected chair of the Maui Metropolitan Organization, it is important to have a director of Transportation that can work closely with the State.
I have worked with Mr. Takamori on the Maui Metropolitan Organization as he serves as vice-chair and also in the most recent executive director search temporary investigative group. His connections and roots on Maui make him an ideal candidate.
I also know Mr. Takamori through my volunteer work serving on the Board of Directors of the Ka Ipu Kukui fellowship program, in which he graduated with the 2015 cohort and now serves on the Board of Directors. The fellowship is a yearlong immersive experience which exposes working professionals to Maui County’s various challenges in hopes of them growing and expanding their horizons as they take on community leadership roles. I am continually impressed with Mr. Takamori's knowledge and understanding of issues facing Maui nui.

The Department of Transportation (HDOT) supports Mayor Bissen’s appointment of Marc Takamori as Director of Transportation.
HDOT works with the Maui Department of Transportation to facilitate and coordinate the expenditure of Federal Transit Authority funds to support Maui’s transit system. Mr. Takamori is a solid partner and an effective leader, and we look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts over the next four years.
Public transit is a critically important component of our state’s transportation system as it provides needed options to connect between home, work, and school, while reducing gasoline consumption and the overall carbon footprint of transportation, contributes to alleviating congestion, and provides economic opportunities. With his extensive experience at the Maui Department of Transportation, HDOT is confident that Mr. Takamori is the right person for the tremendous responsibility in leading this department.

I SUPPORT Marc Takamori's appointment as the Director of Transportation of Maui County. I provided testimony 4 years ago, and since that time Marc continues to be the same Marc, a kind, steady, dependable, incredibly smart, analytical and humble human being…except that now he has more knowledge and experience gained while working as the Director of Transportation for the last four years.
Marc went through the KIK Future Leaders of Maui Program eight years ago. I met him while participating on the interview panel as a Board member that was selecting the Fellows. Marc appeared as a standout talent.
Marc was born and raised on Maui and was a kama’aina who actually came home after attending college and working in the field of Computer Engineering in the mainland. Marc initially worked on DoD programs in the Maui Research and Tech Park, specifically ones that deployed robotic telescopes around the world for use as sensors for Space Situational Awareness.
He then went on to obtain his Master’s in Business Administration, and his interest transitioned from computers to transportation systems/infrastructure focusing on safe, and economical movement of people and goods for Maui County.
Marc and I have worked together serving on the KIK Future Leaders of Maui Board now for the last 7 years. We have also worked collaboratively together when I was employed as the Chief HR Officer for a non-profit that provided transportation services in alignment with the County of Maui Department of Transportation.
Through these past years, Marc continues to be someone who I respect. I have observed him to be calm, analytical and thoughtful under pressure. When he is quiet, it just means that his brains are working extremely hard. Marc is always well prepared and organized. He provides logical, well thought out solutions, and is very considerate in his communication style.
