GREAT-1(3) Reso 23-37 APPOINTMENT AND REMOVAL OF ADMINISTRATIVE HEADS OF DEPARTMENTS (RESOLUTION 23-37, RELATING TO THE APPOINTMENT OF ANDREW MARTIN AS PROSECUTING ATTORNEY) (GREAT-1(3))
I am writing in support of Andrew Martin's appointment to the position of Prosecuting Attorney for Maui County.
I currently serve as the Victim/Witness Director for the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney. It is because of Andy's victim centric focus that I accepted this position in January of 2022 and relocated to Maui from the mainland. Andy's unwavering commitment to serving victims in Maui County and ensuring they are treated with dignity and compassion throughout the criminal justice process is an example for prosecutors nationwide. Andy has encouraged his team to research innovative programs and strategies for providing victims with comprehensive and effective resources for recovery. Currently, the Victim/Witness Program is exploring two such pilot projects to enhance services to victims.
Another area in which Andy has stepped up to lead is preparation for mass violence incidents. Across the country, hundreds of Counties have had to respond to countless victims and help rebuild their communities in the aftermath of senseless shootings. Last September, in conjunction with State victim services, Andy convened the Prosecutors from the Hawaiian Islands, Victim/Witness teams and prosecutorial staff for training on how to respond to mass violence incidents. The training was well-received and the group will convene again to build on the skills learned in the initial training session.
Andy is also dedicated to the well-being of his team and has devoted considerable effort to strategic planning, training on a variety of topics with notable subject matter experts and wellness in the workplace.
Andy's inspirational leadership, his incredible work ethic and his commitment to striving for the best make him an excellent candidate for Prosecuting Attorney.
Sincerely,
Anita Ahuja
