SUPPORTING THE COUNCIL INVESTIGATION INTO GREG BROWN'S BOGUS APPROVALS

I believe this investigation will expose multiple instances of fraud by Greg Brown Development, abuses of authority by Department Directors, and even payoffs to Plan Examiners that allowed Greg Brown to get an SMA Permit Exemption that he never qualified for.

Brown's project is unfortunately typical of how a small group of corrupt developers, licensed professionals and complicit County officials abuse the multiple loopholes that for decades have allowed the exploitation of Maui’s land development process, violating our community’s rights, draining our tax dollars, and destroying our precious coastal environment.

I support the Council Member's bold act here as the Powers That Be, including and especially Corporation Council, will surely attempt to silence this investigation into their role in these wrongdoings.

I strongly support the Council to hold accountable the individual bad actors as an example to others, and to use what is learned in this investigation to adopt simple legislative fixes that we have proposed to close the loopholes and stop this abuse once and for all.

We need to look into any matters that don’t look like they were handled correctly, and find out what happened one way or another. It’s important to keep everyone honest. If it was handled correctly, we need to implement additional measures for the future, such as height limits, more neighborhood input when a project deviates so much from the neighborhood, etc.

This monster house is so sad. Every time I walk or drive by I get so frustrated. Our family has owned in Napili since 1970 and over the years 4-story condos get built bending the rules, adding "lofts" that don't count?! Please everyone, let's wake up and do something before it's too late.

SUPPORTING THE COUNCIL INVESTIGATION INTO GREG BROWN'S BOGUS APPROVALS

Aloha Chair & Maui County Council Members,

I support a full investigation of all departments top to bottom to root out all current and future abuses and to hold accountable any and all for wrongdoings.

Either tear down that monstrosity or utilize for the public good.

    Sincerely,

    John Naylor Makawao

I am sending in my testimony to support the conduct to a formal investigation of the planning and public works departments. I am a water treatment operator grade 4 and former employee in the water treatment division. I have first hand knowledge of a department make mistakes that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and no one being held accountable, and management is allowed to cover up this type of wrong doing. Civil servants that are apart of management/decision makers should be held to a higher standard and not allowed to have a common practice of covering up mistakes, wrong doing or falsifying documents. Also proper investigations should be conducted, employees should not be allowed to investigate themselves, and not having a bias entity (corporation counsel) to do the investigation. Holding employees accountable is the only way to clean up corruption and wrong doing in any department.

I support Kelly King’s proposed Formal Investigation of Planning and Public Works' approvals of Greg Brown’s Napili Monster “Hotel”.

You Council Members need our community's vocal support as the Powers That Be, including and especially Corporation Counsel, will surely attempt to silence this investigation into their role in these wrongdoings.

Please hold accountable the individual bad actors as an example to others, and use what is learned in this investigation to adopt simple legislative fixes that we have proposed to close the loopholes and stop this abuse once and for all.

I support both Res 22-158 and 22-159. As a 30 year West Maui resident, it has been appalling to witness how greed fueled developer's and Maui County public officials have allowed this monster apartment building, permitted as a single-family dwelling, to proceed to the level of completion it is today. The ecological damage has already been done and we are left with an eye-sore and the parties responsible need to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. There needs to be a precedent set and laws in place so this type of "scamming of the law" cannot happen again. Both of these resolutions are just a small step in rectifying the damage done.

I support Kelly King's Reso 22-159 & 22-158 for an official investigation into Greg Brown's abuses in Napili and Tamara Paltin's Reso 22-158 to apply eminent domain to build a Hawaiian Cultural Center instead. Officials that had approved this monstrosity should be exposed and reprimanded for non-adherence of law.

It is fundamental to any democratic system of government that all public employees and officials MUST adhere to the law, and that there must be consequences when they fail to do so. This investigation is necessary to determine whether permits were issued in violation of applicable laws and regulations, and if so, how that happened and who is responsible. Only by uncovering the true facts can the Council take informed action to prevent anything like this from happening again. I support this resolution.
