Resolution 22-86 Supporting Appointment of Helene Kau as Director of Water Supply
My name is Dean Tanimoto, I’m the Water Plant Division Chief for the Plant Operations Division of the Department of Water Supply.
I’ve had the honor and privilege of working with Helene Kau for 17 years in her capacities as Assistant Fiscal Officer, Budget office specialist and recently as Deputy Director of Water Supply.
I’m in support of her appointment because of the following traits: Fiscal accountability with projects, emergencies/ FEMA, grants, operations budgeting, CIP project budgets.
Responsiveness during all emergencies with examples like Iao valley flooding, December storms, meeting day/night and holidays during emergencies. Attending EOC (Emergency Operations Center) operations around the clock, She was driving force on many projects like funding our two-way radio system upgrade to the 700/800 MHZ County wide interoperable radio system (police/fire/public works/civil defense/water and other emergency agencies) which improved communications and ability to cross network with other departments
Helene’s dedication to operations and employees showed when she drove to the base yard early many days to personally assist swabbing employees during Covid pandemic mandates.
