I am in support of this measure to clean up the classification of properties that would apply to the Commercialized Residential class. This class was intended to include only resident occupied properties where permitted B&B use was allowed. There was also thought to this class including other home based businesses, but that has never happened.
In 2014, the Council was lobbied by a Short Term Rental property owner in Makena who asked to be included in this classification, rather than the Commercial tax classification that applied to all other permitted short term rentals. As a result the Council created the language that is proposed for deletion today. This language when it was adopted had the unintended consequence of included a number of other properties that were non owner occupied properties. And this measure will address that oversight.
