It would be much more sanitary & nice to have a restroom at the park for adults & children to be able to utilize & wash our hands at as well. My son has baseball practices at the haiku field & the porta potties are really dirty with no toilet paper. Thank you for making this a possibility for our community!

BFED-77 I want to express support for the Haiku bathrooms. Being an East Maui resident, the drive out from Hana and Keanae make the trip hard for kupuna. Thank you for expediting this project.

    To Whom this May Concern~

The Haiku Community Center/Park is in dire need of public restrooms to serve the large community at hand. Just yesterday I saw baseball practices happening and many families and students out and about.
Having only porta potties for the residents to use does not feel sanitary.

In all my years being a Haiku community member growing up, we always had clean bathrooms to use during our soccer practices.
I would love to see this happen again so that the Haiku park will better be utilized and bring back the life that Haiku once was and had.

It is refreshing to see the many groups come to play pickleball, baseball, basketball, and soccer. Proper bathrooms would
continue to make the Haiku park and community center a desirable place to gather for our Haiku community.

    Best,

Aloha, I am a 30 year resident of Haiku. The Haiku Commucenter , fieldhouse and park are used daily by residents and visitors alike. Being right on Hana highway many people stop to find a restroom. There are port a potties that sit in the hot sun and have no hand washing station. It is a great park with baseball , soccer field , & covered field house inviting people recreation but NO BATHROOMS! Especially in these times of hygiene awareness we need this park to have facilities.

Yes please we are long overdue for restrooms at our park, there is no where to wash
your hands after using the port a potty. The port a potty’s smell horrible and the smell lingers at the play structures in the field, no one should be subjected to that smell at recess or anytime while playing.
Thank You for your time and consideration.

Please include the haiku restrooms in your upcoming budgets, they are needed. Not sure why the old restrooms were ever taken away. Please bring them back.

    Aloha,

A clean, functional restroom at Haiku Community Center and Park is long overdue. I strongly support the addition of this facility. Use of Port-a-potties is not conducive to sanitary needs, hand washing, or mitigating the spread of many contagions. While it may serve in an emergency, this type of relief station cannot be kept clean.

As principal of Haiku Elementary, I am often asked if our facilities can be used by those accessing the park. Unfortunately, I cannot allow my school's bathrooms to become the alternative facility for the entire community. I am very concerned for our children who access the park after school. Young boys and girls do not have separate facilities, there are no viable hand washing stations or access to soap, a basic need especially in this current health crisis. Girls do not have privacy or access menstrual products, everyone is having to touch dirty surfaces, or do their best to avoid contact, which is not easy.

Simply stated, portable toilets are gross and typically the last resort, on a construction site, in the middle of the day-after drinking 3 bottles of water, and dancing doesn't work anymore.

Many families come the playground, sports teams practice daily, and community members enjoy the park, yet they are extremely limited in the type of rest room access provided. This impedes the use and enjoyment of the park. Families need a safe space for their children, especially little ones and our kapuna who may need assistance in the bathroom.

Since the promotion of tourism has been revamped, tourists have limited options when traveling as well. I am certain a bright blue Port-a-Pottie is exactly what they are looking for when trying to enjoy the park or travel to Hana.

Thank you for putting this on the agenda. Bathrooms are a necessity, not a luxury.

Yes, yes, yes. We need restrooms at Haiku Community Center; toilets, sinks to wash our hands and trash cans to properly dispose of trash. The park area is used heavily used daily, by residents; both kids and adults. Team sports also use the park for practices throughout the year. Having no restroom has cut our outdoor play time short many-a-times.
In addition, many travelers; both locals and tourist need a place to relief themselves along their drive to Hana.
This would be a great improvement for the health and sanitation of our community. Actually, it will revert us back to how it was..."the good ole days".

I fully support a restroom at the Haiku Community park. It is a great place for families to get outside and be active. Many times we have been playing basketball, soccer, baseball at the park and wish we had a place to use the restroom and wash hands. This is a popular place for our community, we should have a public restroom here no doubt about it!

    Aloha-
Thank you Maui County Council for putting the Haiku Community Center Park Restroom on your agenda today- it is much needed and awaited for here in Haiku. As you may be aware- the Haiku Community Center is well loved and used here in our little town. It is the hub connecting the local Elementary School, The Recycling Center, the Boys and Girls Club, the Maui Bus Stop (Hopefully a new electric car charging station again soon), and a stop used by tours and groups on their way to Hana along the highway. It is also a host to countless AYSO soccer teams, Basketball and pickle ball users, and more. Simply put- it gets used a lot of a daily basis.
We currently have no real restroom at the park- simply two porta toliets with no trash cans (where to put those feminine products....) or hand washing stations. This is a community concern and should be addressed with high priority- we have been waiting for years since our old bathroom was taken down. We do not have use of the community center bathroom either. You have a high usage park out here in Haiku with no facilities.
I strongly support the Council to amend the fiscal year budget in however needed to allow for a restroom to be built in Haiku as soon as possible, thank you for your true consideration.
