Maui Nui Botanical Gardens is an asset to our community. Please allow the organization to continue by renewing their lease. All of our keiki benefit from their services and resources because the organization provides education programs to all Maui nui schools. They also offer classes for individuals to gain information and skills.

PRIORITIZE aloha 'āina and please CONTINUE the legacy of Rene Sylva. Ua Mau ke Ea o ka ʻĀina i ka Pono!

Please continue to support Maui Nui Botanical Gardens as they are a great resource on native plants & arts. They provide a space to learn Hawaiian crafts from local practitioners and supports many community non-profit organizations like Punana Leo O Maui, our Hawaiian language immersion pre-school, by allowing them to hold their annual benefit concert on their grounds.

Aloha for this opportunity and the past years of approving grants in support of Maui Nui Botanical Gardens. I'm a lifelong resident & went there recently for the first time. The grounds, the programs the staff are all vital components to our culture & environment. Renewal is a must and an increase in fundings.

Please renew the lease for Maui Nui Botanical Gardens. This unique botanical garden brings native Hawaiian and canoe plants to a central location, where visitors and locals alike can enjoy the many species that adorn our islands. Some are endangered species, and others are found in many home gardens statewide. Familiarizing all visitors to the garden helps to protect and nurture these plants wherever they grow. Maui Nui Botanical Gardens is well-positioned to endure an endless tenure here, given a lease extension. Please make it happen. Aloha no.

I support this beautiful botanical garden with plant varieties that are true treasures. I volunteer there whenever I am living on Maui. If we had continued and stronger funding more gardening can be achieved to assure that the plant varieties are maintained. I hope to see and participate their again in 2022!

    Aloha,

I am in support of the lease renewal for Maui Nui Botanical Gardens as MNBG has offered a way for the people of Hawai’i to become educated about native plants and other cultural activities. MNBG offers a variety of plants to the community and allows the people of Maui to become reconnected with their ʻāina. The practice of farming and learning about plants has been a lost practice in which MNBG is able to keep alive for our communities. In addition to offering native plants to our people, they also hold events and classes that educate our people about culture. Please renew the lease for MNBG and help our community to continue to thrive.

Please renew the lease for Maui Nui Botanical Gardens. This facility is an important part of the Maui community—culturally, environmentally, and botanically. In my book Wind, Wings and Waves: A Hawai`i Nature Guide published by the University of Hawai`i, I list Maui Nui as one of the most important botanical gardens in the state, especially for native plants. Please renew their lease so they can continue their fine work.

I support the renewal for Maui Nui Botanical Garden’s lease because as a native Hawaiian of Maui I’ve seen the education go into communities showing the importance of sustainability and health. This is something Native Hawaiians have been practicing for generations on generations and need to continue implementing into the generations to come. They preserve native species and plants that go out into the community and educate the locals and malihini alike of the importance of those species and plants.

There are so many ways that the Maui Nui Botanical Garden is a benefit for Maui County. Just in the scientific area, where the native plants of Maui Nui are being saved from extinction is important. I have seen the sharing of the Gardens work in the yearly tree give away, and the weekly plant sales are putting Maui's native plant species in countless gardens around the island. The educational benefits start with the many work shops and tours for the children of Maui, and then for the island adults, too. Tourists can learn about native species, and through learning about the plants, much history is also shared, which leads to a greater appreciation of the real Hawaii, and hopefully more respect. Maui County residents and visitors can find a quiet refuge in Gardens, which teach how to live a more sustainable life.

I am absolutely in support of the lease being extended - the Botanical Garden is an essential part of the Maui and native Hawaiian heritage, not to mention its incredible offerings in the Hawaiian culture and cultural practices. Losing the Gardens would be tantamount to losing a part of the body of knowledge that is implicit in the Garden. It is part of what makes Maui no ka oi!

I would like for continued support for Maui Nui Botanical Gardens by renewal of their lease. The MNBG gives Incredible support to the Community, not only of this Island/County but of visitors from other islands, states and countries. The Gardens provide educational opportunities for Hawaiian Culture and crafts, gardeners in propagating and growing Native plants, supporting Community events llike Maui Electric, Punanā Leo Hoʻomau, Arbor Day giveaways with Community agencies sharing, accomodating Elementary, Middle and High school students and General Public, tours to learn about the plants by knowledgeable volunteer docents, weekly volunteers giving back by the Weed n Pot group, FAB Staffers etc, etc, etc!! Mahalo e Ke Akua for such a place in Central Maui as Maui Nui Botanical Gardens!
I was able to teach a lauhala workshop here for people eager to learn the how toʻs of working with lauhala! Such a ‘kākou thingʻ Learning n working together from staff to participants!

    Aloha,

As a resident of Maui, I believe Maui Botanical Garden is an invaluable resource for the public. It is a great resource for our community because it preserves Hawaiian culture through culturally important native plants. Through plant sales, classes, and a beautiful atmosphere for community to gather MNBG is a place of respite in an otherwise busy urban area of Maui. When I came here I felt a deep sense of calm and relaxation during my visit and I enhanced my knowledge of native plants in Hawaii. I also believe the seed bank holds high value for conservation purposes throughout the state. I look forward to my next visit and would be terribly sad to see it gone.

    Aloha,

I support the extension of the Maui Nui Botanical Garden’s lease of property. Through the years I have been able to learn about which plants are native to the island and learn about the cultural uses of the plants. My family and I have gone to many celebrations (before covid) and classes offered by the staff and outside practitioners. When we have visitors, we always bring them to the garden to share the knowledge. We now have many native plants growing in our yard thanks to their sales and giveaways. Some have helped to stabilize the waterways near our home and some are beginning to provide shade. The garden and the staff have provided healthy, interesting, and fun activities for myself, my children, and many others. My hope is to see this valued and loved place remain a resource for all, well into the future.
