My name is Jen Mather. I oppose the resolution appointing Dylan Payne as a member of THE FIRE AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION due to possible conflicts of interest related to his status as a realtor for West Maui Land Company (WMLC). Mr. Payne can directly and indirectly stand to financially gain from being on the board by having influence over operations and recommendations of fire safety in the area of Olowalu. Mr. Payne can potentially make decisions that benefit development of the land in the area while being detrimental to the people who live and work there and the surrounding agricultural and cultural sites.
I believe Mr. Payne is an excellent choice for other boards and commissions that would not allow a conflict of interest to occur. I urge you to disapprove this nomination and request another nominee from the mayor.
